Game 19: State Quarterfinals

24 May @ BVSW in State Quarterfinals vs. BV Southwest (2-0)

Ok this was definitely an Allyiah Calvert shutout as she made two of the finest saves we have seen all season in that second half. And those two shots may have been all Southwest really created throughout the match that would be considered dangerous, but those shots were going in.  Check them out right here.

We had asked our girls to compete better in the midfield than we did the first time against Southwest. And our girls rose to the occasion. BWhite named Mallory Heying and Caroline Romme the Co-BWhite Players of the Match, but he gave a huge shoutout to Marge Pigott.  And honestly I thought Denning and Loughman had two of their better matches for the year. So center of the field just superb.

We, also, had asked the girls to bring home a set piece, and they did. Bender delivered a perfect right-footed corner and Crow went at it ALL-WOMAN, drilling it in. That second goal really put us in very good shape. A big shoutout to Katelyn Heying for earning that corner.

Southwest has been one of the top teams in the state all season. We got by them 1-0 early in the year, but it was a pretty even match. Tonight we were better.

With Alex Moss playing through sickness all night, and with the fact that we lost Stompoly for the season yesterday in practice, Emma Dalinghaus got a shot at some wing defender. She did well her first stint, so she got a second and then a third. She came through tonight. Hats off.

We are very proud of this group who despite losing last year's senior class (6 first team all state players), despite losing, at one time, 5 starters during this season, 2 for the season, have somehow kept this unreal streak of 13 consecutive final-fours alive. That was one focused, determined group out there playing tonight.

That was a final 4 team we beat tonight. Only Kansas can make that a quarterfinal.

And now it is onward to take on the #4 team in the country and the #1 team in Kansas, Maize. They can fill up net; yes we know and we have heard that again and again. But hey, we can defend a little bit. So let's just see what happens.

Saints now stand 13-4-2
